Life And Musik with Teodross “Teo” Avery
As a musician, Teodross “Teo” Avery has stood as one who defines live music—best experienced front row, and full throttle. With an outstanding pedigree, both professionally and academically, Teo is a saxophonist to watch.
He launched two cd’s under his name while being signed to GRP/Impulse Records in the mid-1990’s: In Other Words and My Generation, with the former release receiving 5/5 stars in USA Today. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned on to a shortlist of top-tier performers in New York City being asked to join as a soloist and a horn section leader for recording sessions and world tours for artists such as Amy Winehouse, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Leela James, Matchbox Twenty, Joss Stone, Train, Mos Def, and many others.
His television performance credits include the following shows: Black-ish, American Idol, MTV’s TRL, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The CBS Morning Show, VH1, Regis & Kelly, The Essence Awards, the Soul Train Awards, the Source Awards, Saturday Night Live, the MTV Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards. He also appeared in the film, Love Jones.
Now, after joining the music faculty at California State University Dominguez Hills, Teo has decided to fuse his experience in the music & entertainment industry along with his drive to share music with the world: He will feature internationally-renowned musicians from the Los Angeles area on his new television show, Life And Musik. Life And Musik will be aired on the public access channel, LA-36 via CSUDH’s educational tv station, DH-TV reaching as many as 3.5 million households. Each taping will consist of two parts: Firstly, it will feature live footage of each recording artist’s band as they perform 2 songs at CSUDH’s state of the art performance center, the university theatre. Secondly, each artist will be interviewed with the sole purpose of letting the artist open up so they can talk about their Life And Musik.
